Our History

In 2009 Cribbs Kitchen was opened in downtown Spartanburg, SC, on Spring Street by Chef and founder William Cribb. 

The Cribb family has been in South Carolina for more than 300 years. Troy and Annabel Cribb, William’s great-grandparents, moved to Spartanburg in the 1930s, a time when much of the Upstate was covered with peach orchards. With the help of his sons, Kenneth and Jack, Troy built a thriving peach shipping and farming business. Over the years, various members of the family made their marks in Spartanburg, including Dicksie Cribb, a longtime supporter of the arts; T. Kenneth Cribb, a top advisor to President Ronald Reagan; and John Cribb, a bestselling author. 

By the time William opened Cribb’s Kitchen, his family had fostered a reputation for festive gatherings and generous hospitality. William worked passionately alongside his team to bring the delicious ideals of amazing food, good wine, and rich discussion to life. That once small restaurant with its ever-rotating guest list soon became the culinary heartbeat of Spartanburg, and a true reflection of the values cultivated at the Cribb’s dining table.

After several successful years on Spring Street, William was introduced to fellow local business owner Raj Patel. The two entrepreneurs shared a vision of growth and development for the concept they jokingly referred to as a “Pop & Pop” venture. They soon welcomed guests into the new Cribb’s Kitchen on July 14th of 2011. This flagship location, just a few blocks from the original, remains a cornerstone of the Spartanburg downtown food scene.

Now more than a decade later, Cribb’s Kitchen continues to thrive. Their keen sense of culture and community involvement allows Cribb’s Kitchen to progress in future endeavors. As the company adds new locations and expands its family, what was true in the beginning remains true today…
